Francaix Trio & Friends – The Shepherd’s Hour
May 1 @ 11:00 am

The Shepherd’s hour, or Schäferstündchen, takes its origins from the bucolic poetry of the 18th century. Witty, idyllic, intimate and perhaps also erotic, this concert takes its inspiration from the evolution of the Shepherd’s hour through the turbulence of history.
Parisian café life is where the journey begins and ends – the concert is bookended by two pillars of twentieth-century wind sextets and sandwiched neatly in the middle are a trio of delightful character pieces from Romantic and Modern composers alike.
Ensemble Francaix’ s own commissioned work by Australian composer Paul Dean is presented alongside a scintillating Rossini wind quartet, and Ligeti’s 6 Bagatelles for Wind Quintet fills out a charming interlude between the seductive pull of the Parisian café lifestyle.
